How to key the camera attachment on and off:

After you attached your character to the camera, a purple group is created called "FOLLOW_CAM_GRP". Under the group, there's a control that is responsible for the camera attachment. Select that.

After selecting that control, you see a "Attach Cam" attribute in the channel box. You can animate the character attachment to camera on and off.

If you don't want the camera attachment and want to remove that, instead of hitting Ctrl + Z, simply remove this group and you're back to normal.
